Hot Wheels Treasure Hunt: when are they actually worth something?
Hot Wheels is the best-selling toy car brand in the world. But not all Hot Wheels are valuable: most are mass production. The exception is the Treasure Hunts (TH) and Super Treasure Hunts (STH). If you have a large Hot Wheels collection, it is worth knowing which models are truly rare.
What is a Treasure Hunt?
Treasure Hunts are special variants hidden among regular Hot Wheels on shop shelves. They are recognisable by a flame logo on the base and a special colour or livery. Regular Treasure Hunts have plastic tyres and were produced in larger quantities.
Super Treasure Hunt: the true rarity
Super Treasure Hunts are considerably rarer than regular Treasure Hunts. They are recognisable by three features: Spectraflame paint (metallic, glossy), rubber tyres (instead of plastic) and a TH logo on the side of the model. Only one Super TH per case of 72 models is produced, which explains the scarcity.
What are they worth?
- Ordinary Hot Wheels: €0.50 to €3 each, barely any collection value
- Regular Treasure Hunt: €5 to €30 depending on model and year
- Super Treasure Hunt: €20 to €200 or more for popular models
- Vintage Treasure Hunts from the 1990s: the original series can fetch €50 to €500
Does Modelcar.com also buy Hot Wheels?
We specialise in premium scale models and generally do not purchase standard Hot Wheels. However, if you have a large collection with rare Treasure Hunts or vintage series, please get in touch — we always look at what we can do for you.
