Norev and Solido: affordable scale models with collector value

27 May 2025 · Modelcar.com

Norev and Solido are two French brands that produce affordable diecast scale models. They are not premium brands like AUTOart or CMC, but that does not mean they cannot have collector value. In this article we explain when Norev and Solido are worth your attention — and when they are not.

Norev: classic French cars and limited editions

Norev was founded in 1953 and produces models in 1:18, 1:43 and 1:64. The brand is known for its extensive range of French cars (Peugeot, Citroën, Renault) and German brands (Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz). Most Norev models are priced between €30 and €80 and rarely rise in value. Exceptions are special editions of classic models, particularly Citroën DS and 2CV variants, which are popular with classic car enthusiasts.

Solido: sports cars and legendary models

Solido focuses on sports cars and classics in 1:18 and 1:43. The brand produces many variants of popular models such as the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger and various European GT racers. The quality is good for the price, but again: standard models barely hold their value. Limited editions of popular racing cars (Le Mans, DTM) are the exception.

When are Norev and Solido actually valuable?

  • Vintage Norev models from the 1950s and 1960s: collectors sometimes pay ten times the original price
  • Limited dealer editions with a run of fewer than 500: can fetch 2 to 3 times the purchase price
  • Norev Citroën DS and 2CV in rare colours: sought after by classic car enthusiasts
  • Solido Renault Sport editions (R5 Turbo, R8 Gordini): a small but loyal collector market
